Mauricio Ortiz' artwork has a Victorian-style curiosity which pollinates the exotic imagination of this Costa Rican-born artist who brought his work to London through the Delfina Trust Award. His explorations of Naturalia are as imbued with symbolism as they are with mystery.

"An expression of New World reality which at once combines the rational elements of European civilisation, and the irrational elements of primitive America provide a context for my work. The alchemy of these opposites often produces a hybrid.”

He has exhibited alongside Damien Hirst, David Bailey and Vivienne Westwood, partaken in solo and group exhibitions at Christie’s, The Royal Academy and Haunch of Venison, and he has collaborated on projects with Paul Smith, Robert Plant and Jamie Oliver.
